Motor racing-Webber relaxed about his F1 future

SILVERSTONE, England, July 8 (Reuters) - Mark Webber is so relaxed about his Formula One future that even a resurrection of the late great Juan Manuel Fangio as a putative Red Bull replacement would cause him no lost sleep.

"I have a very good understanding of what's going on so I'm pretty relaxed," the Australian, out of contract with the champions at the end of the season, told reporters at the British Grand Prix.

"The papers will be wrapping fish and chips tomorrow, ... tomorrow will be a new story again and that's how it is in F1.

"I am very relaxed mate, very relaxed. Same as I was this time last year when I did have a contract for next year," added the 34-year-old.

"So I am sitting very, very well irrespective of whether Fangio's coming here or whoever is coming in this week."

Fangio, Argentina's five-times world champion, died in 1995 and this year is the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Webber has yet to win a race this season while team mate and reigning champion Sebastian Vettel has been triumphant in six of the eight starts so far.

He has also started on pole position just once to Vettel's seven but claimed the fastest lap on four occasions.

The Australian is occupying the most desirable potential vacancy in F1 and the speculation about Lewis Hamilton moving from McLaren to Red Bull refuses to go away entirely despite both sides playing down the stories.

SUMMER TALKS

Team boss Christian Horner said earlier in the week that Red Bull were very pleased with the job Webber was doing and the focus remained on keeping the current pairing.

"He's been around long enough to know to ignore it," he said of the speculation. "If it's not Lewis, it was Kimi Raikkonen or Fernando Alonso.

"I believe he is comfortable in the team and if he had any concerns then I'm sure he'd ask me."

Horner said he and the Australian would sit down during the summer to discuss next year.

"The key thing for both sides is that he has the motivation, desire and performance to continue," he said.

"He is effectively demonstrating all of those at the moment, and so once we get a bit later into the summer, we will sit down and have what is usually a pretty straightforward conversation."

The atmosphere within the team has been very different of late to last year, when both Vettel and Webber were title contenders and the Australian often had the upper hand.

They collided in Turkey and then Webber accused Red Bull of favouring the youngster at Silverstone, before himself going on to win the race.

Asked about the new-found 'harmony' and why it had come about, Webber smiled.

"Because I'm not beating Seb. The harmony is perfect when the results are like this. I hope we can get both -- me winning again and still have good harmony.

"I think I'm not the only guy fighting against him," he said when asked whether he was tired of being beaten by his team mate.

"All of us are, he's had a great run, we've got a lot of races to go and a lot of good opportunities. Look what's gone before in his past, a lot of good points for him and also not too bad for me either.
