U.S. Research and Development Spending Tops $368 Billion for All Industries-Growing at $12 Billion a Year

Research and Development spending in the United States exceeded $368 billion in 2007 for all industries, according to the 2010 Statistical Abstract of the United States.  Government R&D dollars exceeded $93.3 billion in 2007while industry shouldered the major burden of R&D expenditures with $245 billion dollars. Universities chipped in $9.8 billion and non-profits added another $11.6. Finally non-federal government research reached $3.2 billion.  U.S. R&D spending in 2000 totaled $267 billion.  R&D spending rises by about $8 billion a year on average in the U.S.  (click to enlarge).
