Catalog of Nanofilms for Filtration Unveiled
Covalent Partners, LLC (Hayward, CA) inventors Joshua W. Kriesel, Donald B. Bivin, David J. Olson and Jeremy J. Harris developed a catalog of nanofilms with polymeric components that can be made impermeable to viruses and larger biological species. The films are used to make selectively permeable membrane barriers for the separation or filtration of materials from fluids, according to United States Patent 7,595,368. The 134 page patent divulges a variety of nanofilms for material separation.
Conventional membranes used in a variety of separation processes can be made selectively permeable to various molecular species. The permeation properties of conventional membranes generally depend on the pathways of transport of species through the membrane structure. For example, while the diffusion pathway in conventional selectively permeable materials can be made tortuous in order to control permeation, porosity is not well defined or controlled by conventional methods. The ability to fabricate regular or unique pore structures of membranes is a long-standing goal of separation technology. Covalent’s discoveries are a step closer to that goal.
Selective filtration and relative clearance of solutes is exemplified in the Table Clearance of Solutes by Nanofilms, where the heading "high permeability" indicates a clearance of greater than about 70-90% of the solute. The heading "medium permeability" indicates a clearance of less than about 50-70% of the solute. The heading "low permeability" indicates a clearance of less than about 10-30% of the solute.
Nanoflims for filtration were prepared from amphiphilic species and one or more polymeric components. The amphiphilic species or components may be oriented on an interface or surface. Nanofilms may be prepared by coupling one or more of the components. The nanofilms may also be deposited or attached to a substrates.

The figure shows a series of process steps A-Q which represent a method of continuous catalytic production of carbon nanotubes. Southwest Nano Technologies Inc. (SWeNT) located in Norman, Oklahoma is commercializing this method. The process was developed at the University of Oklahoma by Prof. Daniel Resasco, who is SWeNT’s chief scientist, a company founder and directs the carbon nanotube research team that invented the CoMoCAT® catalytic process. The process is able to grow a significant amount of SWNT in a couple of hours, maintaining a high selectivity.
The process is protected by U.S. Patent 7,585,482.
GM issues service bulletins for 2010 Chevy Camaro

Owners of the 2010 Chevy Camaro may want to swing by their local dealer between stop light drags. General Motors has issued a service bulletin for its reborn pony cars that affects three issues that may become problems for some owners. The first issue involves reprogramming the HVAC module, which will reportedly prevent HVAC evaporator freeze-up after long highway drives. The second issue involves tightening the nuts that affix the rear spoiler to the trunk lid, but only applies to vehicles with VIN numbers A9126194 or lower. The third and final issue involves inspecting the engine harness of all V8-equipped models to ensure that the heater hose clamps aren't touching the harness bracket.
It should be noted that this is not a recall, just a service bulletin and Camaro owners are encouraged to have these items addressed the next time they visit a dealer for service.
Rebuilding Rochester Carbuerators
I was equipped with scanners, lab scopes oscilliscopes,volt ohm meters,and the 4 Gas reading machine which measures the amount of pollutiants coming from your tailpipe. It is also a good Diagnostic Tool.
I really enjoyed the days of rebuilding the C-3 carbuerators back in the day! Now I think they left around 1984-85. This type of work was really rewarding to me. I could see the before and after results of my carbuerator rebuilds.
But let me get back to the point. I cannot believe what a tuneup consists of these days! In my opinion, its just changeing your sparkplugs for $80. Higher on some models! Of course thats when the mechanics have your car in the shop and looks for somthing else to Increase their Ticket averages.
I knew one shop who gave away a Big Screen TV just for selling the most parts for that month! It wasnt me. lol
So in short, when you go in for a tuneup, take your time and ask for the list of the Items they want to sell you. (with estimates) And do them one at a time. Unless your well off or going on a trip and need it all done today. Some services may be legitimate but then others may be just parts thrown at you to increase ticket averages. This Tech. most of the time will do a good job. Thats the guy who will win the Big Screen!
Bridgestone Scientists Create Nano Sensor System for Smart Tires
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (Nashville, TN) inventors John D. Rensel, Paul B. Wilson and Francis L. Merat have developed a nano-wireless sensor system to be embedded in the elastomeric materials of tires to continually monitor the health of the tire. The future of intelligent tires as well as other smart car materials is outlined in U.S. Patent 7,581,439
The sensors may be configured to simultaneously provide data related to one or more factors including temperature, pressure, sidewall flex, stress, strain and other parameters. The sensing system obtains data useful for monitoring tire properties or characteristics including tire tread wear, tire pressure, tire temperature, and sidewall flex. Non-uniformities in the tire can also be monitored and/or discovered such as bulges, punctures, broken threads or cords. Other irregularities can be determined in this manner such as vehicle suspension anomalies due to irregular tread wear or footprint changes. The information is relayed to the driver through a computer display.
The radio frequency (RF) sensors are embedded in the body cord ply material, the belt layer material, and the sidewall material, each sensor being sufficiently small enough to avoid being an occlusion. For example a sensors can activate to provide signals at a threshold temperature corresponding to an undesirable tire temperature or the sensors deactivate and cease providing signals at a threshold temperature corresponding to an undesirable tire temperature.
The sensor length-scales range from nano- to micro-scale devices that are small enough to avoid becoming occlusions within the tire. The sensors may be LCD sensors, conductive polymer sensors, bio-polymer sensors and polymer diodes suitable for sensing data during the operation of the tire. A power circuit using energy generated by the tire provides power to the sensors.
The data collection device includes an antenna for receiving the sensed data in the form of electromagnetic radiation. A data processor is connected to the data collection device for processing the sensed data in order to synthesize information about the tire properties being monitored. The data processor can be a computing device such as a dedicated processor, a conventional computer such as a personal computer or laptop, or other known electronic devices for collecting and processing signals obtained from wireless sensors.
Though the examples described are in reference to pneumatic vehicle tires, it should be appreciated that other tires--such as airless and solid tires--and other elastomeric articles, including air springs, conveyor belts, roofing materials, sporting goods, etc. may also be monitored using a sensing system of similar construction and implementation.
Hewlett Packard Researchers Create NanoHot-Wire Anemometers
Less success has been achieved in using hot-wire anemometers in a microscale environment, such as microfluidics. Conventional macroscale hot-wire anemometers cannot easily be scaled into microscale dimensions. For example, as the scale of components is reduced, the components can become fragile and be easily damaged during the fabrication process. While micromachining techniques can be used to form small-scale structures, micromachining techniques are typically complex and time consuming.
Hewlett Packard inventors Douglas Snell and Theodore Kamins succeeded in creating a nano-anemometer by growing a nanowire to span an open area between a pair of electrodes. The nanowire is coupled to a sensing apparatus to form a hot-wire nano-anemometer. According to U.S. Patent 7,591,193, multiple nanowires can be used to increase the sensitivity of the nano-anemometer or to provide for multiple points of measurement. Various units of measure for flow rate can be obtained. For example, flow rate may be expressed as a velocity (e.g. distance/time), mass times velocity, mass per unit time, volume per unit time, etc. For example, from a flow velocity measurement, flow volume rate can be calculated by taking into account the dimensions of the open area through which the media is flowing. Various other measures, such as total flow over a given time interval, can also be obtained, as will be appreciated. While high resolution measurements of flow rate or flow volume can be performed, coarse measurements can also be performed. For example, the nano-anemometer can be used to determine presence or absence of a flow through the open area. Measuring flow velocity of fluids is helpful in a variety of application, including for example research, metering, monitoring, and similar applications.
Cortec Packaging Uses Nanoclay to Inhibit Corrosion
Nano-clay particles dispersed in polymeric substrate resins, such as polyethylene resin, are available commercially under the trade name "Nanoblend 2001", from Poly-One Corporation of Avon Lake, Ohio. The Nanoblend 2001 material is preferably blended with a polymeric substrate resin such as polyethylene to produce a mixture having between about 2 and 10% by weight nano-clay particles. Nano-clay particles mixed with polymeric resins are also available from other commercial sources.
The packaging film may be formed as a multiple layer co-extruded film, wherein a first polymeric layer is disposed between a second polymeric layer including nano-clay particles, and a third polymeric layer including one or more corrosion inhibitor materials, according to inventors Robert Berg, Arthur H. Ahlbrecht, Margarita Kharshan, and Boris A Miksie. VCI materials vaporize from the film into the enclosed package to minimize corrosion caused by any moisture entering into or contained within the enclosure. The film is formed through a single-step process. Such a one-step formation operation may be performed in a blown film extruder. The market for all types of flexible packaging materials is expected to exceed $26 billion in 2010.
Tsinghua Researchers Reveal Keys to Carbon Nanotube Mass Production Method
Tsinghua University (CN) researchers reveal in U.S. Patent 7,563,427 a method for the continuous production of carbon nanotubes in large quantities in a nano-agglomerate fluidized bed. The process is comprised of the following steps: loading transition metal compounds on a support, obtaining supported nanosized metal catalysts by reducing, dissociating, or catalytically decomposing a carbon-source gas, and growing carbon nanotubes on the catalyst support by chemical vapor deposition of carbon atoms. The carbon nanotubes are 4 to 100 nanometers (nm) in diameter and 0.5 to 1000 microns in length. The apparatus is simple and easy to operate, has a high reaction rate, and it can be used to produce carbon nanotubes with a high degree of crystallization, high purity, and high yield, according to inventors Fei Wei, Yao Wang, Guohua Luo, Hao Yu, Zhifei Li, Weizhong Qian, Zhanwen Wang and Yong Jin. The carbon nanotubes are free of amorphous carbon deposits.
The apparatus comprises a main reactor (1), a catalyst activation reactor (6), a gas distributor (2), a gas-solid separator (7) and a product degassing section (9), wherein the catalyst activation reactor (6) is connected to the main reactor (1), the gas distributor (2) is placed in the bottom of the main reactor (1), the gas-solid separator (7) is arranged at the top of the main reactor (1), the main reactor (1) is provided with heat exchange tubes (3) and a gas feeder at its bottom, and the product degassing section (9) is connected to the main reactor (1) though a product outlet (5). By properly adjusting the reaction rate, operating conditions and fluidized-bed structure, the reactor bed is kept in an agglomerate fluidization state and so continuously mass produces carbon nanotubes with a high degree of crystallization, high purity, and high yield.
In 2008, a new kind of flexible, stretchable, and transparent loudspeaker made with carbon nanotube (CNT) film was invented by a team led by Professor Fan Shoufan and Associate Professor Jiang Kaili from Tsinghua’s Department of Physics. The CNT film loudspeaker possesses all the functions of a voice-coil loudspeaker as well as the merits of being magnet-free and without moving components. The nano-thick CNT films are flexible, stretchable, and transparent and can be tailored to any shape and size to fit various rigid or flexible insulating surfaces such as walls, roofs, windows, flagpoles or even clothes. Several CNT films can also be configured into a large-size loudspeaker.

19,800 U.S. Nanotechnology Patents, 38,600 Nano Patents Pending
More than 16,700 nanotechnology related U.S. Patents have been granted as of the end of 2008. By September 1st 2009, 3100 more nanotechnology related patents had been issued, more than any other year in just nine months and more than all the nanotechnology patents granted in 1999 and the years prior (2890 total patents). More than 38,600 U.S. Patent Applications related to nanotechnology were waiting for approval as of September 1, 2009.
The table “U.S. Nanotechnology Patents by Year 1999 & Prior through 2008” lists the number of patents granted each year since 1999 through September 1, 2009. The number of patents has increased each year and is expected to continue at the rate of more of 3500 to 4000 new patents a year for the next few years.

El consorcio entre CVC y la familia Cosmen ya cuenta con la financiación para lanzar su oferta de compra sobre National Express. Santander, BBVA y La Caixa se han puesto de lado de los principales accionistas del grupo británico de transporte (el 18,6% está en manos de los Cosmen), asegurando hasta el 100% de la financiación de la opa que lanzaran de la mano de CVC.
La mejora en su oferta inicial hasta 5 libras por acción parece haber vencido las resistencias iniciales. Los fundadores de Alsa y la firma de capital riesgo se encuentran inmersos en la revisión de las cuentas de National Express para concretar su opa, que valora a la compañía en 765 millones de libras.
El volantazo que los Cosmen pretenden dar a National Express y su plan de desinversiones –acordado con Stagecoach– ha sido determinante para lograr el apoyo de las entidades financieras.
El consorcio pretende también contar con financiación externa de un sindicato de bancos para garantizar la operativa de la nueva sociedad, en la que se integraría la deuda de la compra y la heredada de National Express.
Los Cosmen no han olvidado un plan alternativo por si fracasa la opa: se han comprometido a acudir a la ampliación de capital de 300 millones previamente anunciada por el consejo de administración para sanear el balance del grupo.

2010 Nissan Altima leaked online, internet almost fails to notice

The image you see above is the updated 2010 Nissan Altima. No, really... it may look eerily similar to the mid-size sedan currently on dealer lots across the country wearing window stickers that say 2009, but the 2010 model is in fact slightly restyled.
Especially noticeable is the reworked front fascia, which now features a slightly more prominent upper grille and a lower intake that's molded in body color plastic instead of black. Flanking that lower opening are new foglights that sit inside boomerang-shaped recesses. We can't make out much of the car's hind quarters, but it seems the tail lamps have grown a in size.
The story of how this image was leaked is also at least mildly interesting. As we reported earlier today, all Altimas and Maximas from the 2009 and 2010 model years were recalled due to faulty upper front strut insulators, despite the fact that a total of zero 2010 Altimas have so far been sold. I would like to opine on a few myths I have heard about auto mechanics. I heard that we are always bad people. The fact is from experience, during a routine inspection, if we recommend to many services that we will see cause a problem down the road for you, we are labeled as a rip off artist. If we don't recommend all the services that will cause you problems we are labeled as incompetent. As you can see being an auto technician can be very frustrating and difficult at times.
One other tip I can give you, If your happy with your car repair after a few weeks go back and thank the mechanic personally. This is almost never done. The few people that did, I as an auto technician personally took care of these people every time they returned for other services. I gave these people special attention on going that extra mile that you normally don't do. I know its hard some times but try and be nice to your auto mechanic!
Used Cars
The things that you would want checked out are front end suspension components, brakes, electrical system, (blinkers, lights etc.) leaks such as antifreeze, oil, power steering, brake fluid, and gas leaks. You'll most likely get charged for one hour of diagnostic time.
With the estimate in hand you can let the seller know that the vehicle needs some work performed. You can either have him fix the vehicle or have him knock it off the price of the car. Ive personally used this strategy and it worked Very well. If you don't have the time, then take someone with you with a little mechanical knowledge.
The things you should do are first drive the car around town and down the highway. Listen to any noises when braking and going over bumps. Make sure all your lights and blinkers work. I’ve noticed in the past most used car dealers would have the engine compartment steam cleaned. With that in mind, I would drive the car a good ten or fifteen miles and then have the engine compartment inspected for leaks. (Engine oil, transmission fluid, rack’n pinion and power steering components).
After driving the car around town pop the hood open see if you smell any fluid burning or see any leaks. These leaks should show up now after driving the car awhile. After the test drive if you noticed any of these problems then have your mechanic inspect the vehicle.
Advance Auto Parts
If they offer you a lifetime brake warranty at an additional cost ask the store manager to explain the warranty in detail. There are so many brake components that are not covered. I will talk a little further in upcoming posts.
Exhaust shops also most of the time offers a free inspection. If you think your car sounds a little louder than normal they will inspect your muffler, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter, and hangers and give you a free estimate.
I would bring another estimate from another shop and ask if they can beat this estimate. If you catch them on a slow day, no or little cars in the parking lot, they might work with you. You'll find this strategy will work with any repair, you need.
Another important point to remember, most big auto parts chains such as Advance Auto Parts offer free alternator, starter, and battery checks. Going there first could save you a diagnostic check out fee someplace else.

According to a report from earth2tech.com, Ray Lane, an investor with Kleiner Perkins, has let slip news that Fisker is developing a new plug-in hybrid automobile to slot below its planned Karma sedan with a base price of just $39,000. No indication is made whether that price would be before or after the $7,500 federal tax rebate it would likely qualify for.
Kleiner Perkins is one of the major investors in Fisker Automotive, so there's reason to believe Lane has knowledge of the inner workings at the young automaker. Earlier, company CEO Henrik Fisker said that the automaker was looking to the Department of Energy for a loan of an undetermined amount in order to build a lower-cost plug-in automobile.
We haven't recieved word that Fisker's DOE loan was approved, so we're not really sure where the funds to develop the new machine will come from. In any case, the Fisker Karma isn't slated to go on sale until late 2010, so the lower-cost PHEV very likely has quite a ways to go before it hits the pavement to do battle with the likes of the Chevy Volt. Car Specifications
The things you should have when calling repair shops are the year, make, model and engine size. When calling about tires, check your owner’s manual for your specific tire size. Some times this can be located on the inside driver's door. Repair shops need this information to give you some type of estimate over the phone. Remember every car and truck have different prices on parts and labor. Don't forget to ask what their shop hourly rates are.
Tune-ups in my opinion are either minor or major. Minor tunes up on today’s cars are basically just spark plugs replacement. The reason I say that is, most of the newer cars, idle speeds and timing are computer controlled. There are no adjustments needed. So if you are having a problem such as missing, hesitating, stalling, and hard to start, ninety percent of the time a tune up wont help it. Now if you are having any of these problems ask for a diagnosis first and find out what the problem really is and get an estimate. A major tune-up is one that will cost you more money and you will need to determine if you are going to keep the car another 100,00 miles.

I would go there and see if the emission part is covered first before you give the go ahead and fix the vehicle at your cost.
All these years as a auto-repair technician I was surprised to see this information, and to see how many parts are covered under this emissions warranty. I would have never known this information if it weren’t for the World Wide Web. These emission control parts are so expensive, please go ahead and check it out. That information should be kept along with your vehicle for future references.
I used to inform customers to check with the dealer or their extended warranty company to see if it was covered. So the next time that little light comes on that says Check engine or Service engine soon, have these documents ready. If a customer asked me if these were covered under the EPA’s emission warranty I would do my homework so that I don't get in trouble with the EPA.
This sight also informs you the process in filing a complaint if you are being sold a part that is covered under this warranty. Whether you were the first second or third owner, it didn't matter.

Mientras no se formalice una propuesta de compra en firme que el consejo pueda recomendar, este órgano de NX sigue pensando, dijo ayer, que la mejor opción para resolver los problemas financieros de la multinacional sería convocar una ampliación de capital con el fin de recaudar fondos, para lo que asegura que ha recibido «un apoyo importante» entre los accionistas. Car Warranty
Things you should have inspected are any smoke emitting from your tailpipe, any type of leakage problems that could worsen after a while, any internal engine noise, or transmission shifting irregularity. These would be covered under your Power train warranty, and should be fixed.
Fuel and emissions warranties basically are any thing having to do with either your check engine light or on some models your service engine soon light. My understanding is the Environmental Protection Agency; (E.P.A) closely monitors the air qualities and wants every vehicle running smooth so that it doesn't produce any pollutants in the air. Most vehicles with the light on would be covered under this warranty. The last time I checked it was 7 years or 70 thousand miles which ever occurs first. According to the EPA (environmental protection agency) ruling you may be covered under this warranty.
I was surprised to see what was all covered and for how long. In another words, if your pesky engine light should come on it might be covered under this type of warranty!

The last thing you should ask before you go, are questions about your warranty. For example what is covered and for how long. I have seen many times over and over, people picking up their cars and simply just leaving. This information could save you money. For example, one shop prices a water pump job at 2.5 HRS. In labor. Their SHOP HOURLY RATE is $45.00 per hour. That means charging you $112.50 in labor. Another shop charges$70.00 per SHOP HOURLY RATE. That comes to $175.00 in labor. Just by asking what their SHOP HOURLY RATES are you saved $62.50. Every shop sets their own rate.
You will also appear as a careful shopper. They will think twice about over charging you. Ask them what are your chances of having your car serviced by a certified technician. In the auto repair industry mechanics are always coming and going. Training new people are always happening.
After all this is your money and vehicle you are entrusting this shop to. So don't be afraid to ask!

This indicates some or all technicians have gone through a training program and have passed the tests needed to become a certified auto technician. This is who I would want working on my car, wouldn't you? Specialty shops (Tune-ups, brakes, exhaust, transmissions, tires, etc.) in my opinion are more experienced in what they do. They see the same problems over and over again. Their prices are usually fair and can give quick and accurate estimates. Where as a general repair shop sees different problems every day.

LOS TONTOS DE SIEMPRE
En fechas no muy lejanas, el verano 2009 será historia. En el caso de todos los que hemos estado trabajando estos meses, esta historia ha sido... de terror. Una autentica pesadilla en la que con 38 grados fuera del autobús y los mismos dentro porque el aire acondicionado no funciona, conductor y viajeros maldicen envueltos en sudor a la empresa concesionaria del excelente transporte público de la Comunidad de Madrid. Pesadilla en la que suenan chicharras y se encienden testigos de averías de un intenso color rojo y las ruedas rezuman un líquido viscoso, autobuses que tiran líquido refrigerante al mismo tiempo que se les repone, relojes de temperatura que sobrepasan los 100º, asientos rotos, rampas de acceso de minusválidos de adorno, asientos de conductor ó que parecen mecedoras ó que llevan una suspensión cómo la banqueta de la cocina de tu casa, direcciones con holgura, 30 coches diarios en el taller, conductores sentados en la puerta del taller esperando asignación de coche cuando deberían estar haciendo línea, partes de taller hechos en cualquier tipo de papel menos en el suyo, servicios y aseos en condiciones infecciosas. Empiezas con un coche por la mañana el turno y a las 2 horas llegan y te lo cambian porque hay que llevarle al ¡¿MANTENIMIENTO?! Y puede ser que durante el turno, no sea el último cambio.
Es muy extraño, comprar una empresa para después de 2 años, tenerla prácticamente destrozada. Aquí se renovaba la flota anualmente, los autobuses no alcanzaban edades prehistóricas, se reparaban puntualmente, no se les dejaba en estado de abandono exterior e interior. Aquí había trabajo para el que quería trabajar y ganarse un euro extra voluntariamente, ahora hay incertidumbre y más adelante, miedo me da... Difícilmente vamos a poder trabajar la plantilla de conductores actual con la flota que tenemos operativa, insuficiente a todas luces cuando llegue mediados de septiembre. Alquilarán cómo si no costara. ¿Para eso compran un empresa que funcionaba?, ¿para traer viejos "zarrios" a la campa de Torrejón a ver si los venden, mientras se llevan a la UG de costas lo poco que nos queda bueno y en estado aceptable?, ¿para dejar que la vieja Continental-Auto con casi 100 años de existencia (85 para ser más exactos), muera por asfixia económica, totalmente degradada en calidad y prestigio?
Anuncian perdidas en los dos corredores(N-1 y Henares y Toledo) ¿No nos estarán poniendo en antecedentes de algo, no estarán intentando justificar algún tipo de medida injustificable que se les esté pasando por la cabeza tomar?, ¿si aquí la inversión en flota es 0, porque se meten en berenjenales a comprar un empresa de la que son parte, que da números rojos y tiene una deuda gigantesca? Por muchas buenas palabras que nos den hermanos, aquí tengo la impresión de que, ver algún tipo de inversión, va a ser tan raro como la lluvia en el desierto. Es también significativo que la "organización ALSA", que es la reina del marketing y la publicidad (Bus plus, revistas, anuncios tv, cooperaciones simbólicas etc.) tenga también, prácticamente más gente trabajando en oficinas para esto, que para el fin más claro e importante de una empresa de transporte a la larga, que es llevar al viajero a gusto, con flexibilidad de horarios y Expediciones y sin tanta parafernalia. Mecánicos los mínimos y menos, conductores sí, pero sin autobús y que casualidad, en NEXCONTINENTALHOLDINGSSLU, sobra la mitad, con "Conti" valía.
En un reciente viaje por Asturias, haciendo un excursión particular en una furgoneta alquilada con conductor, Éste, un señor que vive y trabaja allí y no viene por aquí para nada, al entablar conversación y contarle donde trabajo, hizo una sentencia, que no por sabida por mí, dejó de ser muy reveladora: "Hostias, no tenían ganas los Cosmen de hincarle el diente a la Continental, ¡pues no le tenían ganas de toda la vida!, esos son un rodillo, ó con ellos ó contra ellos, aquí ya lo ves, todo es azul y gris, no hay más".
Este escrito, aparte de ser una denuncia de todo lo malo que nos pasa y nos pasará, por parte de un humilde delegado de vuestro comité, es también la queja amarga de un trabajador que no hace mucho, estaba más o menos contento con la empresa que le daba trabajo en unas condiciones más que dignas y que ahora ve que todo eso se ha ido al garete.
Sin medios, sin inversión (los autobuses de AENA si se renuevan los de largo recorrido de ALSA también) es imposible que esto salga adelante. Lo malo es que de las dos partes implicadas (empresa y trabajadores), una, parece que no tiene el más mínimo interés en que todo funcione cómo antes, o sea, bien. ¿Sus intenciones? no se... pero en la cabeza de todos yo creo que están varias cosas nada buenas, mejor no nombrarlas por si no se les han ocurrido, pero lo que si os pido, es que no nos dejemos dividir, porque es lo único y más valioso que tenemos, no es tiempo de reproches, lo es de unión y de estar preparados para este otoño duro y para un invierno de convenio que no se adivina fácil. FIESTA DE LOS NIÑOS POR JOSE MIGUEL RONCERO
Hola compañeros, siguiendo la vieja costumbre de Continental-Auto, este año volvimos a celebrar LA FIESTA para los más pequeños que sin ningún género de dudas es por y para ellos.
Ante todo agradeceros la elevada asistencia ya que esta tradición creemos que no debemos perderla por muy malos tiempos que discurran; aunque como todos hemos podido comprobar este año ha tenido ciertas particularidades que nunca jamás se habían dado.
Si bien lo principal y más importante es la diversión de los más pequeños, toda la fiesta en sí cuenta, es decir; sin dejar a un lado los juegos, la piscina, los sorteos, los regalos….; también el momento de la comida es significativo.
En años anteriores. Los chavales y los adultos disfrutaron de su cubierto de comida servido en una mesa como bien se merece la ocasión, cosa que el actual no ha sido así, pues como todos pudimos ver el momento de la comida parecía un :”pasapalabra de aperitivos”.
Me explico, la empresa contemplo que LA FIESTA debía celebrarse pero como siempre con “peros”, es decir alabando el marco económico actual no podía sobrepasar un presupuesto que si os sirve de anécdota quedó muy por debajo al de otros años. Tal ha sido el recorte que cuando nos plantearon la situación nos encontramos ante la tesitura de si celebrar o no LA FIESTA.
Por un lado todos teníamos ganas y afán de que se llevara a cabo pero claro al enterarnos del presupuesto por persona para este año estaba fijado y cerrado en 15€ más IVA ¿Qué podríamos hacer?
Tras intensas reuniones con la empresa y con el lugar donde seria LA FIESTA decidimos continuar adelante porque claramente los más pequeños serian los sufridores de todo. No nos parecía justo que algo por lo que se ha luchado se viera castigado por la famosa crisis de la que algunos aprovechan lo máximo.
Por tanto y como excepción para este año continuamos con los preparativos, aunque haceros saber que los años venideros no serán fáciles, pero aquí estaremos como siempre para luchar por lo que nos corresponde y pertenece.
Y MAS......
«Estamos esperando con nervios para ver si sabemos pronto algo y conocer en qué escenario vamos a jugar», opinó Jacobo Cosmen, séptimo hijo de José Cosmen Adelaida. Si como parece la operación se cierra con éxito, esta familia oriunda de Cangas del Narcea dará un paso de gigante en su historia empresarial, pues pasará a controlar uno de los mayores consorcios europeos de transporte con actividades en el Reino Unido, España y Estados Unidos. Paralalemente, los Cosmen Menéndez-Castañedo volverían a hacerse con la propiedad de ALSA, la empresa familiar que vendieron en 2005 a National Express por 217 millones de euros en metálico y otros 167 millones en acciones del consorcio británico.
Pioneros en la apertura de líneas regulares de autobuses con Europa en los años sesenta, en instalarse en China en 1984, y en transportar viajeros hasta Moscú cuando aún existía la URSS y Gorbachov acababa de iniciar la 'Prestroika' (apertura) a mediados de los ochenta, los Cosmen también tienen intereses en los sectores hotelero, hostelero, vitivinícola, construcción y capital riesgo, entre otros muchos.

De los ocho hijos de José Cosmen Adelaida, todos menos el mayor, que se dedica al negocio agroalimentario en Levante, están vinculados a las diferentes empresas e inversiones familiares.
REUNION IMPORTANTE Y MAS DE NX
En un principio y si no hay sorpresas de ultima hora, a la reunion asistirá el Comite en Pleno y los responsables de las UG del Corredor y de Plaza de Castilla, asi como los de Largo Recorrido, ademas de un representante de Recursos Humanos y otro del Taller. Lo que no se ha podido conseguir es que vaya ninguno de taquillas.
Segun le informamos a la empresa, los temas a tratar y que consideramos urgentes, seran los siguientes:
Ahora, con NX, la estrategia ha sido muy parecida. En 2005, los Cosmen vendieron ALSA (salvo los negocios de China) a NX a cambio de 217 millones de euros en efectivo y otros 164 en acciones de National Express equivalentes al 9,9% del capital. En los años siguientes los Cosmen ha ido aumentando progresivamente su participación hasta convertirse con el 18,6% en el principal accionista del grupo británico.
¿Por qué los Cosmen se han lanzado ahora a la compra de National Express? Los motivos son variados, pero hay dos elementos clave en la decisión. Por un lado, se trata de una operación defensiva para salvaguardar los intereses de la familia. En efecto, las dificultades financieras de NX, con una deuda de 1.200 millones de euros y una cuenta de resultados que entró en pérdidas el primer semestre, pone en riesgo el valor de la participación de la familia. Ese endeudamiento, paradójicamente, procede de los créditos suscritos para comprar las españolas ALSA y Continental Auto.
Pese a ser los principales accionistas y los únicos socios industriales (con capacidad para gestionar el grupo), los Cosmen no controlan la gestión. NX, además, está descabezada tras la dimisión del consejero delegado el pasado mes de julio, lo que la convierte en un gigante con pies de barro. El problema más grave está en su división de ferrocarriles, que representa el 20% de la facturación pero genera beneficios exiguos. La compañía se ha declarado prácticamente incapaz de mantener las operaciones en East Coast, que une Londres con Escocia, y ha comunicado al Gobierno su intención de devolver la concesión, una decisión que ha enturbiado las relaciones con el Ejecutivo británico. Las pérdidas en esta línea han sido tan fuertes (20 millones de libras) que han provocado, junto con las provisiones necesarias para su entrega, buena parte de sus números rojos del primer semestre.
Oferta de compra
En este escenario, con el apoyo de CVC Capital Partners, los Cosmen están dispuestos a pagar 713 millones de euros por National Express para tomar el control de la compañía. Un reto, pero también una oportunidad única. Su objetivo es desprenderse de la división de trenes y mantener los negocios de transporte de viajeros por carretera en Reino Unido, España y EE UU. Volver al negocio tradicional de NX, el mismo que conoce la familia desde hace más de once generaciones, y el más rentable.
Si la operación sale adelante y tiene éxito, los Cosmen no sólo controlarán NX sino que volverán a ser los propietarios de ALSA. La sociedad absorbida, como ocurrió con Empresa Cosmen en la década de los años sesenta con José Cosmen al frente, puede convertirse en la dueña de todo el grupo.
