The 12th annual meeting of nanotechnology standardization committee (ISO/TC229) is scheduled to be held in Iran in 2011. Iran is one of the main members of the committee and has actively participated in the previous meetings.
Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) and Institute of Standard and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI) endorsed an agreement on mutual cooperation on Wednesday, January 13th 2010.
The goal of the agreement which was signed by the director of INIC and the head of ISIRI is to secure the mutual cooperation in codification, development and supervision of nanotechnology standards in Iran.
Main chapters of the agreement include:
Codification of national standards on nanotechnology according to national priorities.
Participation in international events of nanotechnology standardization.
Holding of the 2011 annual meeting of nanotechnology standardization committee (ISO/TC229) in Iran.
Development of infrastructures essential for codification and supervision on nanotechnology standards in the country.
Also, Iran has proposed the codification of an international standard in classification of nanomaterials which is on its final steps of being accepted as an international standard.
Increasingly, active countries in nanotechnology fields and international organizations are becoming interested in setting standards for nanotechnology-based products and services. As nanotechnology-based products find their way in national/international markets, the need for standards on nanotechnology is highlighted.
