New Chrysler Delta
The new Chrysler Delta is now on sale in the UK, priced from £16,695, offering family saloon space in a hatchback body, with a host of executive car equipment and technologies not previously seen in a car of this size.
Four trim levels are available for the Chrysler Delta: S, SE, SR and Limited. Four engines are available; two petrol; a 1.4 litre TurboJet and 140 bhp 1.4 litre using Fiat's MultiAir technology; and two diesel: a 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre benefiting from MultiJet technology. All models use six-speed gearboxes with a semi-automatic version for the 1.6 SE MultiJet.
Standard equipment found on the Chrysler Delta S model includes a radio/CD with MP3 compatibility, front foglamps with cornering function, remote keyless entry, manual air-conditioning and power windows front and rear. The top of the range Limited model comes with Blue&Me, a navigation system, headlamps with dusk sensors, reclining rear seats and leather upholstery.
All models benefit from the same level of safety equipment such as Daytime Running Lights (DRL), six airbags, three-point safety belts for all five seats, ABS anti-lock braking with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Holder and Anti Slip Regulation traction control. The Chrysler Delta also incorporates Linearisation Torque Feedback (LTF), Torque Transfer Control (TTC) and Drive Steering Torque (DST), all of which are designed to improve handling.
Projector style headlamps with LED daytime Running Lights feature at the front of all Chrysler Delta models as standard, as doe front fog lamps with cornering function.
The rear bench slides backwards and forwards in all models except the Chrysler Delta Limited, allowing drivers to increase bootspace. With the back seats in their forward position, rear passengers still benefit from 930mm of leg room and a bootspace of 465 litres. With the rear seat in its backmost position, this is reduced to 380 litres. By folding the the seats down, 1190 litres of space is available.
The rear seats can also recline 25 degrees backwards as well for improved comfort. The interior benefits from high class materials and build quality more associated with more expensive models.
The Chrysler Delta S model sees premium fabric covered seats while the SE variants benefit from Carbony 3d fabric which has a three dimensional effect and features contrasting Alcantara inserts. The SR model has Alcantara with leather inserts and the top of the range Limited sees full leather trimmed seats with piping around the edge for an executive feel.
The door handles, radio, climate control knobs and dashboard features chrome finishes. The front seats on the Chrysler Delta SE, SR and Limited models feature the new Chrysler logo on the head restraints. The glovebox and grab handles have a slow sprung return associated with refined cars. A new polyester-based material to reduce cabin noise is used to line the roof.
An optional feature for the Chrysler Delta is Magic Parking, which is activated by a button on the dashboard which utilises front and rear sensors and wheel speed sensors to measure empty parking spaces. If the system detects a spot which is large enough to fit, the driver will be notified by a beeping noise and a message on the dash. The computer will take over the steering in order to complete the parallel park. Speed and braking is still controlled by the driver who can deactivate the system at any point by turning the wheel, changing out of reverse or pressing the button on the dashboard.
