Chevrolet Logo At Frankfurt Airport
Passengers landing at Frankfurt Airport in Germany will be able to see the largest Chevrolet logo in the world as their plane approaches the tarmac.
The bow-tie logo covers 600 square metres and has been created inside the airport's landing zone, marking the opening of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The logo is the size of a large detached house and is located in a ploughed field within airfield grounds. The logo has been created to celebrate the centenary of Chevrolet, which was established in 1911 by Swiss racing driver Louis Chevrolet and American engineer Billy Durant.
The gold bow-tie was first used by Chevrolet in 1913, with a number of potential reasons how it came to be, with the most common being it was taken from a wallpaper design in a French hotel by Billy Durant, however, Durant family members claim that he first drew the logo on a napkin after finishing a bowl of soup.
Some people believe that it originated from the cross on the flag of Switzerland, the birthplace of Louis Chevrolet or it could have been taken from an advertisement for coal products seen by Chevrolet in a newspaper in Atlanta, Georgia.
