BMW ConnectedDrive RTTI BMW Routes Web Portal
BMW ConnectedDrive provides services to connect driver, vehicle and the world through use of technologies providing comfort, Infotainment and safety.
The latest feature is an enhancement to the BMW Routes Portal. Customers who subscribe to the BMW Assist and BMW Online features as part of BMW ConnectedDrive can now access up to date traffic reports with the use of Real-Time Traffic Information (TRRI) from the Web portal with internet connected devices as apposed to previously, where the service could only be access while in the vehicle.
RTTI transmits real time traffic information allowing the planning of travel routes and avoiding areas of congestion or unfavourable conditions in advance. The programmes uses a combination of local traffic data and anonymous movement profiles of mobile communication devices in dynamic networks to provide an accurate overview of current traffic events by determining the number, speed and positions of vehicles on the road. This method can prove more accurate and quicker than radio broadcasts. RTTI can also monitor data from taxis of fleet vehicles in real time through navigation systems which communicate with central dispatchers, adding speed and accuracy of information to traffic problems.
The BMW Route Portal provides drivers with route planning online as well as being able to access traffic information about any incidents or traffic flow issues as well as specifying route criteria or requesting alternative routes from the system. Current traffic situations allows the route planner to calculate accurate times of arrival. In the event of traffic conditions changing after a route has been planned, the route planner can email the driver in advance and suggest an earlier time for departure.
The online usage of RTTI will also be accessible with the My BMW Remote App on supported smartphones beginning in the autumn of 2011.
