Mazda SKYACTIV Fuel Savings and Emissions Reductions For Fleets

Mazda's SKYACTIV technology will provide fleets with major fuel savings and emission reductions and no compromise on the driving experience.

Fleet operators will benefit from reduced whole life costs, lower fuel bills and tax savings as a result of Mazda's SKYACTIV technology, which focuses on new generation petrol and diesel engines, improved aerodynamics, vehicle weight reduction, new chassis and transmission developments.

SKYACTIV Technology Features
  • New generation SKYACTIV-G petrol engine efficiency, delivering a 15% increase in fuel economy and torque.
  • Introduction of new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine technology delivering 20% fuel economy improvement from the world's lowest diesel-engine compression ratio.
  • New six-speed automatic transmission for petrol and diesel engines and a new lightweight compact six-speed manual transmission delivering fuel economy leading to emission improvements.
  • All new platform providing highly rigid body and chassis that achieve outstanding crash safety performance while being 100 kilos lighter than predecessor.
  • The low compression ratio diesel technology also meets Euro6 emission regulations without the aid of NOx (Nitrogen Oxydes) after treatment systems.

SKYACTIV contradicts current industry thinking that fuel economy and emissions can only be reduced by using alternative technology.

Christian Blank, Director of European Fleet Operations, said: "Research tells us that only 10% of new cars sold in 2020 will be fully electric. So we believe that the strategy we are pursuing is the right one – first launching breakthrough technologies for gasoline and diesel engines while continuing to work on hybrid and electric vehicles as well as hydrogen-powered models."

The Mazda CX-5, the first model to feature SKYACTIV, will provide fleet decision makers and company car drivers with the opportunity to sample the technology. The CX-5 is scheduled to launch at the beginning of 2012, after its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

"The technology delivers a winning combination of cost-effective motoring and excellent environmental performance with no compromise in driving dynamics. This will enable our cars to reach the top quartile of our competitor set in terms of residual values and further extend our European fleet customer base" said Mr Blank.
