Nicola Dailey With The Finished Anniversary Sculpture
Vauxhall has been working alongside local students to create a commemorative piece of artwork for the 25th Anniversary of Dunstable Town Council. A 4x4 vehicle was donated by Vauxhall for students to use as a representation of Bedford Trucks' 30 year heritage of Dunstable.
The students were guided by local artist Nicola Dailey and worked with the Vauxhall Heritage Centre in Luton identifying parts to influence the sculpture's final design. Students got down to dismantling the engine before using parts and logos to create a sculpture which represents Bedford Trucks and their own interests.
The sculpture is one of four unveiled in Grove Park in Dunstable. Nicola Dailey was commissioned to work with the local community, with the aim of producing a lasting sculpture depicting Dunstable throughout the years. Nicola wished to create four pieces, symbolising each of Dunstable's quadrants.
The three other sculptures are inspired by The Priory Church of St Peter, the Roman Road running through the centre of the town and the soaring gliders at Dunstable Downs.
