TUV Nord, an independent technical inspection organisation, has presented three environmental certificates to Kia for the eco performance of the Kia Picanto, Rio and Optima.

Low tailpipe emissions and the advanced manufacturing processes involved for the manufacture of the Kia Picanto, Rio and Optima have led them to be certified to the ISO 14040 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

The LCA inspection involves examinations of the environmental impact of the car and its overall manufacturing process throughout its lifetime, covering points including material choices, engine exhaust emissions and recycling.

Benny Oeyen, Vice President Marketing and Product Planning, commented: "Kia models continue to receive recognition from a wide range of independent industry organisations across the globe - for the quality and efficiency of their production methods, for achieving the highest levels of safety and for their striking design.

"Kia is deeply committed to minimising its vehicles' impact on the environment, and this latest honour follows similar accreditations for the striking new Sportage and for our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Zilina," concludes Oeyen.

The all new Kia Rio offers the lower CO2 output of any internal combustion engine currently on sale in Europe - including hybrids - at 85g/km.

The new Kia Picanto has been on sale since June 2011 and the new Kia Rio will be on sale from 1st September 2011 whilst the new Kia Optima will follow towards the end of the year.
