BMW Winter Tyres
With the previous two winters causing a number of issues for road users, BMW has revised its specialist winter tyre programme which is designed to ensure drivers retain the best on-road performance from their car throughout the cold weather.
Most of Europe already sees changing tyres for different seasons as normal motoring and BMW is aiming to make it easier than ever for UK drivers to follow suit. BMW is offering a selection of winter wheel and tyre packages as well as storing summer wheels and tyres until the they are needed for £30.
Summer tyres are designed to work best at temperatures above 7°C. Once the outside air temperature drops below this, the tyres will fail to offer their optimum performance due to the rubber hardening.
BMW's winter tyres are engineered to offer much better improvements in colder weather due to using a different mix of a silica/rubber compound meaning they will retain flexibility at lower temperatures, generating heat and reaching their optimum operating temperature much more easily.
Winter tyres feature more blocks, channels and sipes to more effectively dissipate standing water, reducing the risk of skidding on wet surfaces as well as retaining maximum levels of grip throughout the winter, reducing the chances of an accident. Braking distances are also improved by up to 20 per cent on icy roads and up to 10 per cent in the dry.
Prices start at £700 for a complete set of four winter wheels and tyres on a BMW 1 Series. A variety of different wheel styles and sizes are available, including alloy wheels and steel rims.
