New Toyota Yaris
The new Toyota Yaris has been awarded the top five star rating for all-round safety performance in the Euro NCAP independent crash test.
The results not only met the highest standard for the 2011 test programme but also enough to comply with the 2012 five start rating.
The strength of the car's structure offers a safe environment for adults and children in the Toyota Yaris. Front, rear and side collision impact forces are intentionally disperses along engineered elements in the body to reduce deformation of the cabin.
Specific measures have been undertaken in the new Toyota Yaris improving performance during side impacts, including the fitting of bulkheads inside the rocker panels ensuring efficient impact load transfer and reducing the risk of the rockers breaking. Side impact bars are also fitted in the doors.
As standard, the new Toyota Yaris is fitted with seven airs bags, including a driver's knee airbag. The driver and front passenger side airbags feature a new two-chamber design that improves protection with eight litre cushions for the thorax/abdomen area and 4.5 litres for the pelvis.
Pedestrian protection is provided by a front bumper with contains energy absorbing materials which reduce the impact energy directed at a pedestrian's legs and a pantograph bonnet structure that will also absorb energy in order to protect the head and body in a collision. A crushable cowl louvre features at the rear edge of the bonnet, and the front wings have impact absorbing brackets.
ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Corner Stability Control, Brake Assist, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control also feature in the new Toyota Yaris.
