Citroen Tubik Concept

The Citroen Tubik concept, to be unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, is a high-tech executive shuttle based on the idea that travel should be fun.

With consumers wanting and needing an easy way to travel, with journey time being more important than distance, vehicle manufacturers face the challenge of developing solutions which balance the needs and mobility issues of future.

The Multicity project is the result of the studies by Citroen on mobility. The project is available in France, offering an online portal to make travelling in a car, train or plane easier.

Measuring 4.80m long, 2.08m wide and 205m long, the Citroen Tubik can carry up to nine passengers. The front end, standing apart from the main body is reminiscent of the corrugated metal from the Type H van, while the windscreen pillars reflect the Type H's two characteristic ridges.

The Citroen Tubik is the next phase of Multicity with a new solution, a concept car design to make travel meaningful again, offering a lounge-style cocoon to offer high levels of comfort.

The modular seats allow the passengers to arrange them in a variety of ways. The first row of seats allow passengers to either sit face to face or face the road. The middle row, can either seat up to three people, converted into a table or be folded onto the last row freeing up an area of nearly 2m², of folded out completely, creating a meridienne-style seat.

On board technology in the Citroen Tubik includes a semi-circular screen and high definition surround sound, making the cabin an enjoyable and social area for long distances.

The Citroen Tubik will be powered by Citroen's Hybrid4 technology, a full-hybrid diesel drivetrain with optimised aerodynamics will mean the Tubik retains CO2 emissions comparable to a saloon. The front wheels are driven by the diesel engine, whilst the rear wheels are powered by the electric motor.

Comfort and handling are taken care of by Citroen's Hydractive suspension technology, which keeps the vehicle level regardless of load. The Citroen Tubik can be lowered automatically for improved aerodynamics, reducing both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
