The Ferrari 458 Spider has been unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new model is an 8-cylinder, mid-rear-engined two seater boasting a fully retractable aluminium hard top, a world's first for a sports car with this layout.

The Ferrari 458 Spider's hard top of 25kg lighter than a traditional soft top and is also quieter and thermally more efficient when raised. The hard top, which takes 14 seconds to open or close, has been engineered to occupy a very small space when stowed in order to include a rear bench for luggage.

The rear windscreen is also utilised as a wind stop and is electrically adjustable. The wind stop opens to the height for the most efficient aerodynamics when the hard top is down.

The Ferrari 458 Spider is powered by the 570 CV 4499cc V8 engine, which has been named International Engine of the Year 2011. Combined with the dual-clutch F1 paddle shift transmission, 0-100km/h is reached in less than 3.4 seconds on to a top speed of 320km/h.

Conforming to 2020 safety legislation, the Ferrari 458 Spider's all-aluminium chassis incorporates new alloys and castings.

The new Ferrari 458 Spider benefits from class-leading fuel consumption and emission levels. The High Emotion Low Emission system allows for combined cycle fuel consumption of 11.8l/100km and CO2 emissions of 275g/km.
