New BMW X3
The comprehensive range of standard safety equipment and occupant protection has resulted in the new BMW X3 achieving the highest rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.
The new BMW X3 features a stable body structure with forces applied to the BMW X3 in a collision are deflected along precisely defined load paths to be absorbed by crumple zones.
Standard safety equipment in the new BMW X3 includes front, side and curtain head airbags to protect both the driver and the passengers from injury. Belt latch tensioners and belt force limiters for the front seats are also standard, alongside ISOFIX systems in the rear for attaching child seats with the option of deactivating the front passenger airbag. The restraint systems are controlled by the central safety electronics, which will analyse the type and severity of an accident, and will trigger the most effective protective features.
The Euro NCAP test assessors concluded that the BMW X3 provides high levels of occupant safety for all seats. Comprehensive injury protection is provided by the stable passenger cell in the event of a front end collision for driver and passengers, irrespective of the persons size and seat position. THe BMW X33 received outstanding ratings for protection of children aged around three years or 18 months in the relevant-sized child seats. Maximum points were also awarded for side impact protection.
All active safety features found in the BMW X3 also achieved an outstanding rating. The features include: Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC), which is linked to BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. Braking Assistant, Cornering Brake Control and the traction mode DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), Dynamic Stability Control make the BMW X3 easy to control and providing secure handling even in challenging situations.
The NCAP tests includes a frontal collision, a side-on crash and a side impact against a steel post. From 2009 onwards, the tests have also taken electronic safety features into account, alongside additional injury risks in a wide range of collisions.
