The BMW Group Named The Automotive Industry Sector Leader

Having been named the automotive industry's sector leader in the ranking published by the SAM Group for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI), the BMW Group has now been World's most sustainable automobile manufacturer for the last seven years. The BMW Group is the only automotive company to be listed every year since it was established in 1999.

"The success of the BMW Group is built on a long-term approach and responsible action. We are pleased to be recognised by the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes," said Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. "Being ranked sector leader for the last seven years underscores our corporate strategy and approach. I would like to thank all of our company's 95,000 employees whose day-to-day work makes this progress possible," added Reithofer.

The SAM Group analyses the economic, environmental and social performance of around 2500 companies, with the best company in each industry being selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

Created in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index was the first global sustainability index created, and has been published each year by the SAM Group in cooperation with Dow Jones Indexes.

As a global company, the BMW Group operates 25 production and assembly facilities in 14 countries, with a global sales network in more than 140 countries.

The BMW Group sold 1.46 million cars and over 110,000 motorcycles worldwide during the financial year 2010.
