A video of a rather unusual pre-race prayer at the Nascar Nationwide series on July 23 has gone viral in its own right and sparked several musical versions that have also found internet fame.
The pre-race prayer took place at the start of the Nascar Nationwide series race in Nashville, Tennessee on July 23.
Conducted by pastor Joe Nelms, the prayer begins normally enough before the pastor diverts from a traditional religious script and begins giving thanks for "these mighty machines," "GM performance technology," "Sunoco racing fuel," "Goodyear tyres" and finally for his "smoking hot wife" and children.
The original video, Best prayer EVER! Pastor Joe Nelms- Nascar Nationwide- Nashville TN, was uploaded to YouTube on July 23 and had nearly one-and-a-half million views by July 29, with YouTube trends showing it as the second most shared video in the USA.
The pastor's unusual prayer has also spawned several musical copies, including a video response by YouTube user operamanda titled Best Nascar Prayer Ever! SPOOF (National Anthem) and a video by Songify This, a YouTube series by musical outfit the Gregory Brothers, who turn speeches and events into songs.
The Gregory brothers version, Songify This: BEST NASCAR PRAYER EVER - in song, was uploaded on July 27 and as of July 29 had over 270,000 views; the video is also ranked 17th on YouTube's "most watched today" chart.
