The BMW Group Reports Strong Sales Results For September 2011

The BMW Group has seen another record month in sales, reporting 159,214 BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce vehicles sold worldwide in September 2011, compared to 2010's 142,953, a rise of 11.4 per cent. It was also the BMW Group's most successful third quarter, achieving 399,218 vehicles from July to September 2011, a 9.0 per cent increase compared to the same in period in 2010.

January to September 2011 were also the Group's most successful nine month, with sales rising by 16 per cent compared to 2010. In total, 1,232,584 vehicles were delivered (1,062,209 units in 2010).

Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing: "We made solid gains right across the globe and once again achieved record sales for September which contributed to a record third quarter. At the end of the third quarter we find ourselves well on course to deliver our target of more than 1.6 million vehicles in 2011 and to remain the clear number one among premium manufacturers once again this year. Throughout the fourth quarter we will continue to strive for a worldwide balanced growth and to continue our upward trend. We have exceptional new products such as the new BMW 1 Series and the MINI Coupe, which are already in strong demand and which will provide further momentum."

The BMW brand reported 128,446 vehicle sales in September, a 9.3 per cent increase over the same period in 2010. The BMW X3 saw the strongest sales, with 11,345 units sold, a 260.6 per cent increase. The BMW X1 sold 12,535 in September, a 24.7 per cent increase over 2010. 27,811 BMW 5 Series were sold in September, a 29.7 per cent increase.

Year to date, BMW has delivered 1,021,927 vehicles, a 14.5 per cent increase over 2010's 892,729 vehicles.

Robertson: "A real highlight this autumn will be the new BMW 1 Series, which hit the market in Europe last month. We delivered well over one million units of the first generation BMW 1 Series, which far exceeded our expectations. Orders for the new model already look very promising and I am confident that the new model will continue this success story."

The MINI brand saw a rise of 20.5 per cent in worldwide sales in September. 30,287 vehicles were delivered, compared to 2010's 30,287, resulting in MINI's most successful September to date.

More than 200,000 MINIs were delivered between January and September 2011, a 24.1 per cent increase at 208,216 over 2010's 167,752 units.

In September, the BMW Group increased retail volumes in Germany, the U.S. and China. In Germany the company reported a 9.9 per cent increase, totalling 23,809 in vehicle registrations. BMW reported an 8.8 per cent increase in registrations to 20,051 vehicles (previous year, 18,424) and MINI showed an increase of 16.2 per cent with 3,758 vehicles registered (previous year, 3,234). A total of 220,064 BMW Group vehicles have been sold year-to-date, a 12.9 per cent increase over 2010's 194,940 units.

The US saw strong growth, with 25,749 vehicles sold, compared to 2010's 23,112 deliveries. A total of 219,314 BMW and MINI vehicles were delivered to customers in the United States in the year to the end of September. China's growth remained high, with 18,588 vehicles sold, over 2010's 15,379 vehicles. From January to September a total of 177,522 vehicles were delivered, an increase of 45.7 per cent compared with the same period last year (121,826).
