Vauxhall VXR8
The Vauxhall VXR8 has become the winner of Fleet World MPG Marathon, achieving a 53 per cent improvement on its official combined figure.
Top Gear Online editor Chris Mooney drive the V8 powered Vauxhall VXR8, supported by navigator Andrew Duerden, recording 32.14mpg compared to the official combined figure of 21mpg.
The two day Fleet World MPG Marathon event is the UK's longest running economy driving event and took place in the Cotswolds with routes covering 350 miles including a mixture of A and B roads and motorway driving.
"Andrew and I are, as they say, over the moon to win the overall best percentage improvement in the VXR8," said Chris Mooney. "It just goes to show that the person behind the wheel can make a massive difference to fuel costs and carbon emissions. And, of course, that a 6.2 litre V8 is a very sensible choice of engine in the right hands."
A presentation will take place on Wednesday 12th October 2011 where Chris and Andrew will pick up there trophy at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London.
The Vauxhall VXR8 was revised earlier in 2011, featuring new front and rear end styling, a new cabin and a variety of new technology.
